How PR and social media marketing turned a suburban cake shop into a foodie phenomenon
One of our latest client wins has been with Dulcet Cakes & Sweets, a small patisserie café that originated in Burwood and has recently opened a second outlet in Haymarket.
We started working with Dulcet in May 2019, originally to help them market the opening of their new Haymarket store. Dulcet already had a loyal customer base for their sister store in Burwood, but an obscure location within a small shopping arcade in a new location meant that the new store wasn’t so successful in taking off as it lacked brand recognition.
CPM recognised that Dulcet had a unique offering and tasked themselves with creating media hype around the new store to build up a new loyal following and bring new customers.
The public relations strategy employed by CPM quickly evolved into a media frenzy within a couple of weeks.
CPM successfully secured Dulcet Cakes & Sweets features in all the top Sydney publications, which in turn lead customers by the busload into their store, with a huge increase in cake orders that they struggled to keep up with!
We obtained great press in The Good Food Guide, Concrete Playground, Broadsheet, Time Out, The Urban List, SBS Food, AWOL, and Where To Sydney.
This quickly transformed them from a little-known hole-in-the-wall cake shop to a renowned foodie hot spot.
Their current mooncake promotion has received an overwhelming response, with most of their stock nearly selling out before the end of the season.
The heightened exposure and strong brand reputation in the Sydney food scene have meant that they have had to move to a larger space in Chatswood to keep up with the demand for their cakes and products.
